Ethiopian Chelba DP

This coffee has been produced in the Yirgacheffe zone, which is surrounded by the Sidama zone. About 700 small farmers that live in the Gedeo zone bring their coffee to the Chelba station. Each farmer averagely owns 2 hectares of land. Besides growing coffee, all of them have some additional crops for subsistence purposes. Some of them also raise cattle additionally. Also, Acacia, Podocarpes and Cordial Africana trees are grown to provide shade for the coffee plants. Unwashed or natural coffees are dried on elevated beds, immediately after picking. This process takes between15 and 20 days, depending on the weather conditions. In general, the temperatures during the day are 25 degrees Celcius and the temperatures at night 18 degrees. When the coffee beans have reached a moisture percentage of 11.5-12%, they a stored in a local warehouse before they are transported to Addis Ababa. This coffee has been wonderful the past few years.
